You know you're addicted to Salsa if.....

You know you're addicted to salsa if.....

- if you are on a business trip far away from home yet you have danced for 6 out of the past 8 evenings
- you don't have enough of the local currency to pay for cover so you pay using a combination of American, Canadian and Euro coins to get in
- your calf muscles feel tight from all the dancing yet you wear fur lined boots with thick pantyhose and wool socks for the ultimate in padding so you can dance yet again tonight
- you are running dangerously low on clothes for work & dance, suitcase of fresh clothes in near empty because everything is in the laundry pile
- you skimp and eat a really inexpensive dinner so you can spend more money on really expensive water at the salsa club that evening when you get thirsty after dancing for a long time
- you spend as much time on salsaforums as you do on your office website

...you're low on funds so you scrape together 18 dimes and 4 nickels to pay the $2 cover at the club. Oh, the joys of unemployment :(

ROFL, you crack me up! :uplaugh:

Wow, sorry to hear you're unemployed; that must be rough.

My status as an economic casualty is one of the reasons I got addicted to Salsa in the first place (long story). For me, life actually got better after I got laid off. After a couple years, I found a part-time job, and my main budget priorities are rent, monthly bills and dance classes. So I guess that's a sign of addiction. :)

I would love to know how many people want to take Latin dance classes but can't because of their economic situation.

you're preparing for a 7 hour drive starting after 4pm on Saturday to go to a festival in another country where you get to spend about a day before having to drive back again :)

You think about taking a trip to NY just for salsa. Any other activities like visiting museums are just time-fillers.

I'm headed to NY the first weekend of May (If any NYC Salseras are reading this, please do save me some dances ^_^) and that's EXACTLY why I'm going! Taking a private w/ Magna, doing at least 2 group lessons (Frankie Martinez and Santo Rico), and going to Jimmy Anton's social.

OK, ok... I do have one other reason... I have a date lined up, but seeing her gave me one other reason to make my NYC trip happen sooner rather than later

You know you're addicted when...

You find out you got accepted into a Ph.D. program, and your second thought is "and it's in a city with good salsa, TOO!!" :bouncy:

Ha. So you're using a date as an excuse to make a NYC salsa trip.:D I hope she's not reading this forum!

When you get pick pocketed, lose your CCs, IDs, phone, and money, and the first thing that comes to your mind is : Sh!t! now I can't dance tonight

Wich reminds me. Driving to your local dancespot.
Suddenly you realise you forgot your wallet. You still go anyways and hoping some friend can cover you. Or get a free entrance somehow

Ha ha... No worries there, she knows I'm coming up there for that anyway :-) She actually expressed an interest in dancing On2 more (she's a dance instructor in other genres, decent at salsa), so she's coming to Santo Rico's class w/ me and going to Jimmy's social w/ me as well. We've already discussed that that doesn't count as our "date", so I'm double-dipping there ;-)

Yeah it's pretty rough, but salsa keeps me sane. Luckily it's a relatively inexpensive hobby (I haven't been taking lessons so it's all cover charges when applicable). For instance, roommate loves movies and sees a couple per month -- I can go dancing 3 times per week over the course of a month and only spend the same amount he does on just 2 movies.

Haha this reminds me of back in my Kenpo days when I was in a horrible car accident and the first thing I thought when I regained consciousness was "F, I'm not going to be able to train for a long time "

when you're arrested and thrown in a police cell and you're thinking if they can just charge me I still might get an hour of dancing in.

Um... we need to have more of this story! Were you dancing On2 in an On1 zone?

No I hit the roof of a taxi that I thought was about to hit me ... and apparently left a dent. The cabbie called the police and I'm due in court at the end of the month to face a charge of Criminal Damage.

If you have another witness, you could credibly claim the driver was dangerous driving. I'd imagine a taxi driver doesn't want issues that'd affect their driving capability or employee's insurance etc.
Hope it sort out

Thanks. I've been through all the arguments (it happened in December) so now I'm just hoping the justice system works for me.
