Te escapaste - new song - Live at Le Bascala Toulouse last night. the venue was full. Over 1000 people. The tour is quite a success. Starts out as a ballad . The CD version doesn't pf course this is something they do at concerts with certain songs.

Medley from Argenteuil, France. One of the nice things is that the singer Alexis David is also a good pianist and takes over sometimes allowing Maykel to interact with the audience.

Video from Paris 2015 - song isn't really that new anymore, but as yet unrecorded. They have had this tendency to start one song as a ballad in each concert. Sometimes it gets to be too much. But anyway...good song. Oh and BTW in case you didn't hear - Alexis David left for La Charanga Habanera and Kasanova and El Chino from Azúcar Negra have now joined Los Mayores

The CD posted above by Timberamayor (Juan Formell y Los van Van - La Fantasia) has some good tracks for dancing a rueda:
    Me Basta con Pensar
Soy La Mujer Que Quiero Ser

Some Maykel Blanco songs that will work for sure:
    La cara de Salir Pa'Andar
    Se Acabo El Amor
    Lo Bello por Dentro

What are your criteria fora good rueda song?

Also a heads up for people in Canada/Japan and Shanghai - MB y su SM will be touring there for the first time next in August so don't miss the concerts! Oh also in Moscow this fall.

It depends on the group of dancers,
But I think the song must have the right speed (90-100 beats a minute) no 'breaks' in the rhythm, speed changes are fun and in some songs a break can also be fun if the caller knows the song and participate at the right moment.
It must be easy for all levels of dancers in the circle to hear the beat, so they can always continue dancing, even if the call isn't heared or misunderstood (always keep dancing, never break the circle)
It is a feeling as well, some songs fit all the criteria but they just do not feel right for dancing a Rueda.
Note: i noticed a lot of LA style dancers have difficulty to dance along with a rueda on Cuban music like Timba or Son, and yes some Son is nice to dance a Rueda de Casino.

Do you and your rueda friends ever dance rueda a contratiempo to son?

I am afraid not, contratiempo (real cubano son) is only danced by a few in The Netherlands, but most of the rueda dancers i know lack the skill, including myself
I am trying it at times and it it is hard :)

Day 2 in the studio. Also interetsing report at Facebook by "Chucho". If you've been around la farandula in Havana you know who Chucho is. Essentially what he said was that he's been involved with three big artists in Cuba: Manolín, Gente D'Zona and Alexander Abreu but that he's never seen anything like the concert on July 25th at la Tribuna Anti Imperialista by MB y su SM where it was packed with people all the way from 23 & Malecón to past the US Embassy. So Maykel has definitely made it to the upper echelons. Estimates of 90000 people.

I was there but saw nothing of that part. I didn't realize they were dancing on stage. :(
I was dancing and not looking at the stage but at my partner hypnotic blue eyes. I didn't manage to find her again during the parties.
Were you in Rovinj as well?

No. A good friend of mine was. It sounded like it's a place I should go next year. I'm not a congreso type person. I'm only interested in the bands. I always do my dancing before and after the show to not miss anything. On the other hand I might miss dancing with a partner with beautiful blue eyes ;)
