Naming Boogaloo songs?

Just wanted to start a thread with some names of great Boogaloo songs. I want to do a show with Boogaloo songs only. Other than Sonora Carruseles what are some other great Boogaloo songs?

Johnny Colon, Pete Rodriguez, Eddie Palmieri, Joe Cuba. Most throughout the early sixties. Tons of great boogaloo tracks

Some of my favorites off the top of my head

Pete Rodriguez - El Hueso- favorite by far
Pete Rodriguez - I Like it Like That
Johnny Colon - Mira Ven Aca
Johnny Colon - Ojos Que No Ven
Ray Barretto - El Nuevo Barretto
Willie Colon - Skinny Papa
Willie Colon - Eso Se Baila Asi
Eddie Palmieri - Aye Que Rico
Eddie Palmieri - Cinturita
Johnny Colon - Oyelo
Latin Giants of Jazz - Michito's Boogaloo
Tito Rodriguez- Watusi Boogaloo

Also check Kako, Latinaires, Ralph Robles, Monguito Santamaria, Ray Rodriguez, Willie Rosario.

Hope you let us know when you are gonna do this. Would love to listen.

Thanks again, I will post on this thread what Thursday night I will do the special Boogaloo show. I will keep you updated.

I'm no expert on this genre however about 20 years ago I bought a compilation with a certain boogaloo track on it that I now consider to be about my favourite:

Johnny Zamot - Johnny's Boogaloo

That tune is HEAVY.

Also Summertime Blues by Lebron Brothers, numerous tracks by Joe Bataan and Federico Boogaloo by Federico.

When it comes to the new generation of boogaloo, one of my friends takes boogaloo lessons and she loves Galante Boogaloo by Jerry Galante (apparently the original era boogaloos are too slow for the style of boogaloo dancing that is popular in Colombia, which is why the Colombian DJs used to speed up the tunes back in the day).

I know some DJs who collect original era boogaloos, if you need more recommendations I'll try to find some of their lists, there's an El Gran Combo tune they go for.

Good luck with your project.

Awesome Yuca see if you can get that list so I can o shopping for some more Boogaloo tracks! Thanks.....

The El Gran Combo tune is Clap Your Hands.

Other tracks recommended (I mean by boogaloo collectors, I've not heard these myself) are:

Latin Dimension - Mr Mod
Feddie and Henchi - Biscuits and Buttermilk

And compilations:

El Barrio: The Bad Boogaloo
The Rough Guide To Boogaloo
Explosivos on Vampisoul

I've not got any of these incidentally but I have seen them recommended by people who are into that sound (most/all of whom would never listen to salsa incidentally, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy them too).

Is boogaloo (original and/or new school) popular in Miami?

Yuca thanks a lot man for your help. I will make sure that the Yanelis Roche the MC during my Boogaloo show mentions you two guy's! It really means a lot to me knowing there are some out there that are willing to help out.

My pleasure, I'm sure you'll do a great boogaloo show.

Who'd of thought that a genre so despised during its infancy would be internationally popular 45 years later?

p.s. no one has mentioned Mongo, I prefer his 50s charanga/mambo and rumba to his 60s output but even so, he was a master of the boogaloo era.

Yes I play the faster Boogaloo at my events and it goes over real good.

Yes I did not know that this Genre was so despised back then until I read about it. It is great music and very contagious!

I've just remembered a big 'un, I bought this on a bootleg 7 inch in 1987(!):

Monguito Santamaria - Hey Sister

* Michela by La Sonora Carruseles
* Boogaloo Pa Gozar by La Sonora Carruseles , and they have a quite few more
* Monkey see Monkey do by New Swing Sextet
* Me Gusta Boogaloo by Carlos Haire
* La Tuna by Los Wuawuanco

BTW...I have selected a few of the faster BPM's ones that I will be placing in a mix for this Thursday's show. I will try and place the songs I have selected here so keep them coming. I need a few more to fill up the 30 min set I am planning on doing. All songs will be blended or mixed so don't say you were not warned! LOL...........

Thanks all who have replied. I have been listening to many songs posted here by you all. I have selected a few but many posted are just not found on Amazon or iTunes. So keep them coming. I know Sonora Carruseles has many Boogaloo tracks but I only want one or maybe two of there songs.

Also, the station wepa.fm will be having "The Sonora Carruseles" live in studio for an interview on Tuesday at 1PM. So tune in.
