SFO congress roll call/meetup

Thought there was a thread on this already, but I couldn't find it.

I'm doing evenings only but would love to meet up with other forum members. Post in the thread and/or and shoot me a pm. :)

ok, i'm in!

I'll be there, too! Getting in Thursday night. Anyone here planning on entering the Jack and Jill contest? That should be fun to watch.

Great idea!

I 'll be there for at least some of the evenings (probably Fri/Sat) and would be very happy to meet with others from SalsaForums IRL!

I'm going tol drop a pm to noobster with my cellphone #.

You know, I didn't buy a full congress pass (was just gonna do the parties), but I'm considering buying a day pass for Sunday just to watch the Jack and Jill. Added benefit, there are a couple of Sunday classes that look extra cool (zumba and guaguanco) and that don't conflict with the Jack and Jill.

Glad to see we have so many people coming! What does everyone think about trying to meet up early on Friday night (say 7 or 8 )?

When does the door open? Last year there was quite a bit of waiting for the evening session. I think, It'd be safer to meet somewhat later. (Not to mention, that I am improbable to show up before 9, due to schedule conflicts)

Evening registration starts at 7; doors open for dancing at 8:30.

I was thinking it would be good to meet and say hi before the dancing starts; otherwise everyone might be too 'itchy to dance' to stick around and schmooze.

But if people aren't showing up till later that idea is out. So what's a better time to meet then?

Btw what is the dress code like? I was thinking of wearing my bright pink "yo bailar el salsa mucho bueno" tee shirt so sf members could recognize me easily, but if all the other girls are wearing sparkly dresses I might feel dumb in a junky tee shirt and jeans.

on friday, workshops end at 4pm, and registration starts at 7pm. (4-7 is the tech rehersal time - any SF'ers busy because of rehersal then?)

Maybe some of us who will be there at 6 can still meet? I think it's unlikely that we will ever easily find a consensus time :)

Anyone know if the Java Parc cafe in the hotel would be a good choice of spot to meet?

I could maybe do 6, though there would be a chance of lateness given rush hour traffic. Make it 6:30 and I would be more likely to be timely.

If there is a late-arriving contingent (after 9) perhaps we can arrange to find each other by phone?

Re location, hotel cafe sounds ok to me.

Hey, anybody know if there is a way to PM a list of people? I don't seem to be able to put in more than two usernames and I don't want to send out 12 separate PMs with my phone number.

Last year my impressions was that people (especially women) generally tended to dress much more stylish than in a club, but it was just a tendency, not a rule. AFAICR, sparkly dresses were in the minority, though. ;)

If you like to dress up, the congress seems to be a good occasion.

I think the general congress dress code is your normal clubwear, with a *slight* upgrade for the Saturday night party. I think you'll be fine in a tee and jeans. Definitely see more of that than of the sparkly dress.

Will Cafe Cocomo on Thu have a Halloween-ish streak to the night? Will there be dancers all dressed up in costumes?
I doubt it, since Cocomo's "Hallowe'en Ball" is tonight (Wed). Also the last three salsa events I've attended have had Hallowe'en themes. I think everyone is probably all costumed out. No mention of costumes on the site either.

Sweet. I'm not a sparkly-dress kind of person myself, but a lot of women around here do dress up for salsa so I've been influenced to make some upgrades in my pathetic dance wardrobe.

Okay, so look for this tee shirt on Friday everyone.

Now, it would be fun to fress up some dozen girls in the same T-shirt, and let them loose to confuse all the latecomer SF-ers. ;)

Were the instructors out social dancing?

In the congresses I attend the instructors don't seem to come out social dancing anymore? If at all it is only for 1 hour towards the end of the morning.
